If you’re applying for your first California CCW permit through San Diego or Riverside County and want a more flexible schedule, Focal Point Academy’s Online CCW Initial Course lets you complete your required classroom training online, at your own pace, before finishing with an in-person live-fire qualification at our Vista, CA range.
This 16-hour online course is delivered through our training partner, California Online CCW, and covers the same California-mandated topics as our in-person CCW course. Once you complete the online lessons and pass the final exam, you’ll bring your certificate of completion to Focal Point Academy to complete your live-fire qualification and finish your training requirement.

Course Description
The Online California CCW Initial Course is a 16-hour training program for new CCW applicants applying through San Diego or Riverside County. The course is broken into multiple online sections with a quiz at the end of each section and a final exam covering all course content.

- Safe firearm storage

California Penal Code Section 26165 establishes the required topics and minimum training time for initial CCW applicants. After completing the online coursework, you’ll complete live-fire qualification with each firearm you want listed on your permit at Focal Point Academy.

- Complete each online lesson and section quiz at your own pace. You may start, stop, and resume as needed, and have 90 days from purchase to finish.
- Pass the final exam covering all course content.
- Print or screenshot your certificate of completion.
- Contact Focal Point Academy to schedule your live-fire qualification day in Vista, CA. A separate $23 qualification fee applies.
- Complete live-fire qualification with the firearm or firearms you want listed on your permit.
- Submit your certificate and qualification documentation with your San Diego or Riverside County CCW application.

Cancellation Policy
