The Beginner Handgun Safety Course gives new and prospective firearm owners the foundation they should have before purchasing, handling, storing, or training with a handgun.
Students learn how to approach firearms safely, how handguns work, how ammunition is identified, how California’s firearm purchase process works, and what responsibilities come with owning or storing a firearm in California.
As part of our San Diego beginner handgun training, students receive practical instruction in a supportive classroom environment.
After completing the class, students may choose to take the California Firearm Safety Certificate exam with Focal Point Academy.

- Be prepared to pay any required FSC testing fee if taking the exam.

Yes. Students may choose to take the California Firearm Safety Certificate exam with Focal Point Academy after completing the class.
Does completing this course automatically give me an FSC?
No. Completing the class alone does not automatically issue a Firearm Safety Certificate. The FSC is issued only after taking and passing the California Firearm Safety Certificate exam.
Do I need to own a firearm to attend?
Not at all. This class is designed for beginners, prospective firearm buyers, and anyone who wants to learn firearm safety before handling or purchasing a handgun.
Is there live-fire or range training included?
