Why Train With Focal Point Academy in San Diego

Keeping a BSIS Firearms Permit current requires more than simply arriving at the range before your permit expires.
Permit holders must complete multiple requalifications during the two-year permit term. Missing the required schedule can create serious problems when it is time to renew.
Focal Point Academy helps working armed security professionals complete the required review training, live-fire requalification, and instructor certification documentation in a professional learning environment.
Our BSIS Exposed Firearm Renewal Course San Diego is designed to help security professionals remain compliant with California BSIS requirements while maintaining firearm proficiency.

Course Description

This course is designed for current BSIS Firearms Permit holders who need one of their required firearms requalifications during the two-year permit term.
The course includes review training covering the use of deadly force, avoidance of deadly force, and de-escalation techniques. The classroom review is completed before the live-fire range qualification.
After the review portion, students complete a 50-round live-fire qualification with each approved caliber maintained for duty use.
This course follows the requirements outlined in California Code of Regulations Section 633.
Whether you are approaching your next qualification date or preparing for permit renewal, our BSIS Exposed Firearm Renewal Course San Diego helps you complete the required training on time.

What Students Review

Review topics include:

  • Laws and standards regarding the use of deadly force
  • Avoidance of deadly force
  • De-escalation techniques
  • Professional responsibilities of armed security personnel

Students also complete live-fire requalification using the applicable BSIS course of fire.
Qualification is required for each caliber being maintained on the permit or carried for duty use.

Requalification Schedule

A BSIS Firearms Permit is valid for two years from the date of issuance.
Permit holders must complete:

  • Four range qualifications during the life of the permit
  • Two qualifications during each 12-month period
  • No two qualifications may be completed less than four months apart

Before each range qualification, the required two-hour review training must be completed.
Failing to follow the required requalification schedule may make the permit ineligible for renewal and could require submitting a new initial BSIS Firearms Permit application.
Our BSIS Exposed Firearm Renewal Course in San Diego helps students stay compliant with these important renewal requirements.
